My full name is Jeffrey David Marchetti and I have nearly spent my entire life in Macomb County between my stays in Sterling Heights, Fraser and, now, Warren. My wonderful parents raised me to treat others as you would want to be treated (which is something I try to instill in every student that steps foot in my classroom). I am the teacher I am today because of them and will forever be grateful for all they have given and taught me through the years.
My mother did not put all her eggs in one basket, either (despite its complete success), as I grew up with two younger brothers. In the photograph, I am obviously Dr. Horrible (middle). My brother Chuck is the Hockey Player (left), while Matt is Hot Rod (right). Chuck is an architect in real life and Matt is a Physical Therapy Assistant. Based on our occupations, you've probably gathered that the three of us were encouraged to value the importance of having an education. You would be correct. Even though we all have made professional career choices, we also have embraced the concept that you can only have a fulfilling life if you take the time to have some fun...and, yes, that fun may have gotten us into a little bit of trouble now and then.
Through my brothers, I have been blessed with four nieces (Bethany, Amber, Cameron and Brooklynn) and a nephew (Chantz). I enjoy spending time with them...teasing them and generally driving them insane (you know, your typical "uncle" shenanigans). We do go to movies, bowl and simply hang out every so often but I encourage them to read as much as I can...just like I do with all my students. In spring of 2015, we tragically lost Amber. I think of her often and frequently find qualities of her in my students. They help me to cope with this loss without even knowing it. But, amazingly, kids have a way of sensing when things are difficult and for some strange reason, know exactly what to do and say. As far as my living situation, I live by myself except for my wild and crazy cat, who I named Buffy. She keeps me company and constantly on my toes...that's for sure.

While I love my job, I do like to have some fun outside of work. I am a sports-nut. I love to both play and watch most sports; however, I am in bowling, kickball and softball leagues. I have played softball for nearly 20 years with my brothers and we have actually settled on a team name: 5 Innings Strong (this honors our team's inability to play a complete game). In 2013, we finally won our first E-League Championship at Liberty Park as shown in the photo above! Then, after being moved up into a higher division, we won a D-League championship in 2014. I play Thursday E-League doubleheaders and Friday E-League doubleheaders. After the sudden closing of Liberty Park, I have started playing only on Friday nights at Baumgartner. I will also be bowling Monday nights this year...which is nice!
Everyone knows that playing sports is more fun; however, I do enjoy watching them, too. My favorite sports to watch are football and hockey. Fair warning: your child will learn a LOT about the Red Wings this year. I have been an avid Wings fanatic ever since I can remember and do consider the '01-'02 and '07-'08 seasons to be very special because I was able to celebrate those two championships with my classes. After that, I like Tigers baseball and NFL football. Maybe (just maybe) one day those Lions will actually pull out a championship run for us...but I don't like to get my hopes up when it comes to our local football team.
I also consider myself a movie and TV show aficionado. I will watch almost any movie and if you saw how busy my DVR is with television show recording, you would most likely freak out. Some of my favorite movie genres are comedy, psychological thriller, mystery, adventure, superhero, sports and science fiction. I have WAY too many favorite movies to even start a list, though I do make a feeble attempt on the "My Favorites" page. I will say that the new Wonder Woman is at the top of my list right now. As far as TV shows go, my all time favorite is unquestionably "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer." Laugh all you want, but Joss Whedon (creator/writer) is a genius, and this is surly his best work (though he did write other gems like Toy Story and The Avengers). After Buffy, the list of favorite TV shows is even more daunting than my movie list.
Over the past few years, I started collecting hockey jerseys...most from Geeky Jerseys. I wear them throughout the school year; my goal is to have enough for ever day of the school year (I am north of 65 right now). I am excited to announce that I was named Geek of the Month for May of 2015. You can see my profile on Geeky Jerseys under the FANS button. Here is my Dragons Card-
It was pretty cool and I earned a free jersey out of it!
You should probably know that I do LOVE to read as well. I read to my students, I read to learn and I read for fun. I remember being in elementary school reading Dr. Seuss books over and over and OVER again. Other than his works, I do remember "The Monster at the End of the Book" and "The Giving Tree" as being my first favorites. The first chapter book I fell in love with was the "Bunnicula" series by James Howe and I can still remember my 2nd Grade teacher at Havel Elementary (Mrs. Marble) reading those books to us in class. I did the same with my 2nd Graders and continue to do so with my 5th Graders! My favorite books also include: "The Harry Potter" series, "To Kill a Mockingbird," "Hunger Games" and just about anything by Stephen King.
Finally, I do play some video games to wind down (mostly sports games) . I also play board games, especially trivia or thinking games. In fact, I was on a Quizzo (trivia league) called "Samsonite...I Was Way Off!". I love trivia and consider myself a fountain of useless information. My Quizzo team's best showing came in the winter playoffs of 2012 when we finished in second place. In 2014, the Quizzo team was rebuilt. We are now "It's Not Worth Winning If You Can't Win Big" and hold our own when we are all present.
